Paolo De Conto (Energy / TM) was certainly rated very highly for the final of Euro KZ1
but we saw some extremely fast drivers in the prefinal. Yannick De Brabander (Parolin / TM) and Jonathan Thonon (CRG / Maxter) would probably recover to attack the pole sitter who also had to manage Marco Ardigo (Tony Kart / Vortex) at his side on the front row. De Conto was the leader on the first lap with Dreezen in his wheel tracks, then Ardigo, De Brabander, Iglesias and Thonon. Lammers, Puhakka, Lavanant and Hajek had some damage at the first corner, Abbasse retired soon after. Meanwhile, De Conto held the lead, Ardigo passed Dreezen. Mich took seventh from Thonon. Ardigo was 2nd on the 4th lap, he obviously didn't want to let De Conto take off. Fastest lap for De Brabander, Thonon took 7th and 1 second from the top group. 6th lap: De Brabander was on the rampage, he took 5th from Iglesias, while Ardigo closed on the leader. Dreezen had to let Thonon past, into 6th. At the halfway point, the top 6 were within 3.8 seconds: De Conto was increasingly pressured by Ardigo, 3rd was Convers then Iglesias 4th, De Brabander 5th, Thonon 6th Fore 7th, Mich 8th. Ardigo retired on lap 12, he returned to the pits slowly. De Brabander took 3rd after passing Iglesias. De Brabander was 3 / 10 a lap faster than De Conto who was 3 full seconds ahead of him, but there were still 10 laps to cover: it was possible. Thonon retired and Fore took 5th. Convers may have begun to worry about his 2nd place, but De Conto maintained a strong pace in the lead. De Brabander lost time at the back of the circuit on lap 21 but closed on Convers on the next lap. Kozlinski went off in the tyres, with no grip. De Brabander took second on the last lap and now Convers was threatened by Iglesias, but he kept it on the line by 76 thousandths.
It was a great victory for Paolo De Conto (Energy / TM), a very fine second place for Formula K with Yannick De Brabander and also a flawless race for the 3rd placed Armand Convers and his Kosmic / Vortex. Iglesias finished 4th just behind Convers and ahead of Fore who finished 5th and Dreezen 6th.
